About the Artist

  John Swatsley

B. 1937, Beloit, Wisconsin

John took his formal art training at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, California, and after military obligations, entered the art field in publishing. He moved from magazine art direction into freelance illustration specializing in wildlife and historical subjects. He now devotes his time exclusively to painting. Extensive trips to Italy, France, Spain and Africa are an ongoing source of inspiration.

His first priority is striving for the individuality of every subject. To achieve this, John applies the principles of design and color to create a unique mood in each painting. Traveling to locations to gather first-hand observations heightens the emotional content and immediacy in John’s work. Collectors enjoy paintings of places they have seen and find pleasure in reliving these experiences in a work of art.
